I took my car in to repair. I checked under the hood and there was a black plastic sound absorption cover over the engine. No engine components were visible. They said the transmission was bad and replaced that. Cost 3400. When I returned for the car, looked under the hood, the engine cover was missing and I cud now see all engine components. I requested that the cover be replaced as before. The manager says there never was a cover. Then he said he wud order one. The next day, he said he could not get one, and furthermore, I was mistaken that none was on the car when I took it in, because lincoln stopped making those sound absorption engine covers in 1997 for lincoln continentals. I know I am not hallucinating, I saw one over my engine! The service manager says his mechanic did not see one, and he believes his mechanic. Plus they didn't even make those then for 2001 lincolns. He says the engine cover is not available.

Anyone knows if this is true that it is now unavailable? I know I did not imagine that cover on teh engine. It was neat, clean, and covered with black plastic cover bolted over it when I loked under the hood. Now it u can see the bolts, adn wires and everything visible in the engine. I only have one car. Anyone know where I can get the engiine cover to buy? It's called a structural front engine sound absorption cover. I am so angry, if I go back to that dealership to argue this point, i'll kill that lying sob of a mechanic! Or get myself locked up for bashing his head in!

Thanks

A hes lying through his teeth. I know for a fact that they used them on the 97. I replaced mine because it was broken.

My guess is one of the techs either broke the cover and chucked it hoping you would not notice, or they just lost it all together and are sticking to thier story so they dont have to replace it with a new cover as those are usually not cheap.

I picked one up at the local scrap yard for 10$ was in good shape and I got both bolts for it.

Demand to speak to the owner. Or better yet send me an email and I will do it for you. I feel like being evil to a shop thats disrespectful to its customers by lying to them today.
