Liftgate will not open, is there any way to open the liftgate manually?

When any of the 3 ways to activate the liftgate is pressed:
1. Overhead button.
2. Key fob.
3. Latch on the lower outside of liftgate.

The liftgate makes a beeping sound (per normal operation) but will not open.

Additional info: Several months ago, the rear window shattered, sending glass fragments all over the inside of the car. I removed them as best I could (including using a shopvac) but recently I found some shards in the storage compartment just inside the liftgate on the left side. The glass was replaced by a body shop. I'm now travelling (am 1000+ miles from home in FL) and thinking I will have to take car to dealer tomorrow. Is there any way to open the liftgate manually?

Hi,

I was able to find the directions for manually releasing the liftgate in the event of latch failure. Take a look at them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them or if you have questions.

Thank you for your response. In was impossible for me to crawl from the 2nd set of seats to the inside of the faulty liftgate. Even if I could do that, I don't see where the access panel is. Lastly, I did not understand which lever to pull.

The key to the problem was that the liftgate "tried" to open when any of the 3 buttons/trigger was pushed/pulled. It made the 3 beeping sounds that are normal. But the fact that it would not open pointed to the latch itself being faulty.

Since I am traveling with a fully loaded car, and the car is under warranty, I took it to a dealer who replaced the faulty latch very quickly and without cost to me.
