Hello, I have been having issues with my lift-gate. The issues have actually been lasting a couple of years. The rear power lift-gate generally opens up all of the way with no issues, however when it closes, it generally stops about 2/3 of the way down. I'm not sure if a sensor is bad or getting tripped, if the motor is bad, or if one of the struts is bad. I tried doing some sort of a reset procedure that I read about online but it didn't seem to help. It doesn't do this 100% of the time, but it does it most of the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated. FYI i'm a good friend of Ryan's! Thanks!

Welcome to 2CarPros.

When it stops mid way, do you get two beeps? If so, there is a technical service bulletin (TSB) that was published related to the symptoms. I will attach the TSB for your review.

Here is the TSB. The attached pictures all correlate with the directions.

Applicability

Introduction

Some 2014 2015 model year Highlander vehicles may exhibit a condition in which the power back door starts to open or close normally, then intermittently stops and beeps twice. In most cases no current DTC is present, but DTC B2226 or B2227 (PBD Unit Pulse Sensor LH/RH Circuit) may be in history. Follow the Repair Procedure in this bulletin to address this condition.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess the good news is that now I know what's going on. The bad news is it's going to cost an arm and a leg to fix. Appreciate the help!

Welcome back:

I take it the TSB was accurate for the symptoms and conditions you are experiencing. I would contact Toyota and let them know this has been going on for a long time and no one was able to repair it. Maybe they will help. It never hurts to ask.

Take care and let me know if I can help.
