I had a lifter tick and asked the shop to do a valve adjustment. Upon opening the cover, they showed me that the noise was due to a rusty cam lobe. They recommended engine replacement, since they said that to do the job right, they would have to replace both cams (even though only one lobe was problematic) and that a replacement would be the same money.

The engine is now going through vetch valves every nine months, mechanic says they break due to low oil pressure as a result of engine wear and age, even though oil pressure tests within spec.

What do you guys think?

If oil pressure is right then there is something else wrong like maybe a partially blocked passage going to cams or if cams have lube holes they could be. Or cheap parts as well. If the valves are worn or wearing out then the part that rubs against them may be bad causing the valves to go.

I meant vtech solenoid assemblies. Also, what about the rusty lobe? Change the whole cam or put in anew engine?

Well rusty lobe could be from sitting and oil came off. I I would not replace the engine for that what were oil changes like if they were to long could do it as well. The solenoid assembly could still be from partial blockage like a screen plugged. Also, make sure voltage is correct as well as the connection.
