Hi,

My SC430's convertible top suddenly will no longer open. The luggage cover and valet button are in the correct positions. Are there any troubleshooting tips you can provide?

Thank You

I would start at the basics first. have you checked the fuses there are 7 of them that ruin the system?

Here is a guide to help you run a simple test.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Have the codes been checked? Here is the top wiring diagram and the fuse locations.

Check the last diagram it has moist of the fuses you need. Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what you find.

Cheers

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply. I checked the fuses in the trunk panel there are two 20's that look like they are fine. Apologies for not understanding, which codes are you referring to?

Thanks!

THere are codes stored in the pcm that will give DTC or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. A scanner is required to get them out of the pcm. However we may be able to get through this otherwise.

Check these fuses:

They are located on the passenger side.

There are 55 different trouble codes associated with this system as it is complex:

https://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/30961_lexus_1.jpg

These are the vairious components. The trouble codes give a start to diagnosing this system and after looking at this, I need to know them.

Maybe autozone can read them, as they do this for free or may need a special scanner for the Lexus, not sure on this. But without codes the field is too large to go after.

I found somthing that may help. I found a technical service bulletin that mentions that if a request is made to open the luggage door while the hardtop is in operation, the operation will be cancelled. IT will be then necessary to manually finish the started operation. I would try to manually do this and see if it resets the system. After it is fully opened and closed it should then be enabled.

If you need the procedure to do this let me know.

The trunk opens the top goes back but the small leather piece that folds up and seals to the trunk once the top is all the way down does not move. First what is this piece called and where should I start to troubleshoot it?

These are very complicated circuits. Diagnosing them requires a very high tech scan tool that can read every module in the car. There will be stored codes in the top control module. That is your starting point.
