2004 Lexus RX 330 stuck ignition key

When I shut down my engine, the ignition key could not be moved from "ACC" to "Lock" and could not be removed from the key slot. Repeated jiggling of the key and restarts of the engine did not resolve the problem. The key remains in the ignition slot.

my first thought is that the car's ECM doesnt "know" that is in PARK.
