Not sure if this falls into the stupid question category or not. I recently took my '02 Lexus RX 300 in for its 60,000 mile service (to my local Toyota dealer). Dealer came back after servicing it and said that the rear brakes had only 5-10% of their life left. My question is: is this just a scam to get me to pay an extra $3-400 for new brakes? If not a scam, how much longer can I drive on them.

Thanks for your time.

Why would you think it's a scam? Without seeing them, and not knowing how you drive, you have 60,000 on it so 10 percent more is 6,000 left? Tops...not unusal at this milege to need em..

thanks for your reply. I just thought the dealer was trying to bilk me out of additional $$. sounds like it is not an unusual expense for the amount of miles... thanks.
