1999 Lexus RX 300 Starting engine trouble

I used my car in the am and 2 hours later it would start but would not stay on unless I kept my foot on the gas pedal!?

Sounds like it may be an issue with the Idle Speed Control Valve.Toyota/Lexus use adesign that is sensitive to carbon build up an will hang up and not idle or sometimes idle too high.It is mounted on the bottom of the throttle bore.If removed and cleaned out with carb cleaner it will ususally take care of the problem
