Engine Mechanical problem
2007 Lexus IS

If a 2007 Lexus IS 350 muffler is dented or bent, does the entire system need to be replaced? I got in a fender-bender the other day and the muffler was hardly touched - the plastic from the bumper was bent down into it just slightly - and now the shop is saying they need to replace the ENTIRE exhaust system. What is going on here??[img:a9698d3595]http://www.2carpros.com/forum/automotive_pictures/471667_Lexus_IS_bumper_and_tailpipe_2.jpg[/img:a9698d3595]

I don't want to second guess someone who has actually looked at car....BUT....

It should not be necessary to replace entire exhaust system unless they can show you why.
Have them put car on lift and explain why and show you why exhaust needs to be changed.

The shop may be trying to make a few extra $$$ from insurance.

I was rear-ended (pretty hard) a few years ago in a Corolla and only had to change the rear muffler/tailpipe assy.
