Steering problem
2001 Lexus IS 300 65000 miles

Hi, I recently received an esimate for an accident. But I suspect not all of the work items cited are related to the accident. This is important because of claim issues. Your help is needed ASAP, by this Weds, April 21.

Description of accident:

The car went over a pothole. The front left wheel of the car took the greatest impact. There was a very loud bang when the car was over the pot hole, and immediately, the steering felt as if it’d lost control of the wheel. I could steer it left and right without feeling a corresponding movement from the car. I stopped the car right after the intersection. Visual inspection showed that the two front wheels were not pointing at the same direction. The front left wheel was off to the counter-clockwise direction by a few degrees.

Please let me know what items below are related to the accident, and what is not. And please provide an estimate on the repair for the relevant items only.

FYI, the car is a 2001 Lexus IS300. I live in NY 11385. My email is wai_shiu@yahoo. Com

Thank you for the help. I'd like to provide a $10 donation to your wonderful website.

OK the suspension list looks like it could be correct depending how the impact hit the front end. Now the list of other stuff like the atf fluids adn the batter and sensor and belts are not related to accident. Hope this helps but this is the best I can offer without seeing the car.

A few questions:

So based on the suspension list, what is the estimated repair cost?

And, is it necessary to replace the LOWER CONTROL ARMS, LOWER CASTER ARMS, LOWER BALL JOINTS for the right side of the car?

Lastly, the pothole wasn't that big. Ok, the front wheels are very much out of alignment, but nothing broke. Is it necessary to replace so many structural members?

Ok again without seeing the car I can't tell you wat should or shouldn't be replaced. What I can say depending on how the car hit and what it did is what depends on the damage. The control arms and such may have bent or stressed when the wheels went there own way (not pointing straight). Based on the list you will be around $2000 in parts and labor.
