I just recently had my car smogged and it failed due to MIL. They said the car was fine it passed all the other exams except the functional test due to Check engine light. I went and got it scanned and it had no codes but did say that the MIL should be off when the car was on. This is what they smog guy told me. He told me to go and get it reset or drive it around. Can I do this on my own? What is causing it to go on if there is no problem with the car?

disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes and it should reset the light, and reconnect it, if it comes back post back.
