My car starts OK and runs smoothly once started, but will not maintain an idle speed and dies.........

I have to rev the engine to 800 rpm with the brake on and then put it into gear; once I'm rolling, it is OK. It has done this off and on for about a year.

Clean out the idle air control valve and clean the MAF sensor with an electronic cleaner CRC and test the throttle position sensor.
