My Lexus temp guage shows below the cold level regardless of how hot the engine temp really is. It's one of two things. Either the thermostat is stuck open or the sending unit is bad/not working. I believe it is the sending unit as the heater does get very hot and the guage does not register anything. Help?

Thank you,
Dennis

Sounds to me like the sending unit is bad.

If the thermostat was stuck open it would eventually heat up. Slowly but it would heat up.

If it was stuck shut it would be overheating.

The coolant temperature sensor is in the engien anyways. So it wouldnt be affected by the thermostat.

Replacing the sensor should fix it.
