Letters ERR came up on my Dashboard

My husband is driving home from work and he says he heard a ding and looked at the dashboard and the letters ERR came up where it tells you if need oil change, etc. What does ERR mean?

It means error, however you would need to scan the system to find out what caused the error. There are many things from outside temperature sensors to internal engine problems that can trigger that. Without the exact code you do not have a starting point.
