When I turn on my headlight the passenger side blinker light ignites and will not turn off. The flasher works fine but why does the light stay on?

Hi,

For this to happen, there has to be a short to power. When you say the right blinker light, is it front or rear? I need to know specifically which light or lights it happens to. Does the interior signal indicator also light?

I was going to attach the wiring schematic below for the exterior lighting. However, I found an error in the schematic, so I need to wait for confirmation from the publisher. I just need a few more specifics and I can dissect the schematic and let you know what to check.

Here is a link you may find helpful when testing:

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

Joe

Thank you. It is the front right blinker bulb that stays ignited when head lights are turned on. There is no light indicator ignited inside the care, the blinkers on both sides work fine but the yellow bulb stays on with the head lights.

Okay, it's the right front (passenger side) only. Here is how this works. Power is sent via what is called a totally integrated power module (TIPM) to the signal lamp and the headlamps.

First, note if the signal light turns on when both the high beam and low beam are on. If it is only one, that will help narrow things down. If it is only one, let me know which one.

Next, I need you to check the wiring at the front headlamp assembly to see if anything has crossed or there is evidence of light socket damage or wiring damage.

To access the wiring for the signal lamp, follow the directions in pics 1 and 2. You access it from inside the fender, a plastic liner with an access location.

Now, if you look at pics 3 and 4, that is the wiring for the signal lamp. Pics 5 and 6 are the headlamp wiring. Note that the power for both is from the TIPM. If the wiring is good at the sockets, there is no evidence of a short, and nothing appears corroded or damaged, chances are the problem is back at the TIPM, which is basically the large fuse box under the hood.

The TIPMs on these vehicles have a history of the connector pins breaking, corroding, and causing issues. The cause is due to there being so many pins that are extremely small and oftentimes, non-repairable. So, we will need to check. (That is the last resort).

Let's start simple with the tests I provided. I did note that wiring to the low beam for the right side is in the same connector as the signal for the right front. The right rear is powered via a different connector.

Let me know what you find. I realize this may be confusing, so let me know if you have questions or if I can help in any way.

Take care,

Joe
