So my Hearse has an oil leak. I took a picture of where it is dripping from and puddling up. Does this look like a rear main seal leak? The engine is a 472 Cadillac. The oil pan is further up to the nose from where this leak is. My father in law is going to give me access to his shop on Sunday, so I want to be sure I know what needs to be fixed before I get there.

there is so much dirt/oil there it is hard to tell. use a quarter car wash and wash it all down first. it cold be a transmission seal as well, so flywheel cover has to be removed first. if in front of flywheel probably engine seal if behind and on converter probably transmission fluid what is going down on fluid and you have to add the most. It can also be an oil pressure sender at rear of the engine especially if leaking very fast.

It is engine oil that is draining. The transmission fluid is still fine. I am noticing a drip landing on the exhaust manifold also. Saw puffs of smoke rising up from under the car after I turned it off.

check the pressure switch it is at back of the engine and can do that. take air cleaner off to see it but still clean the engine.

Also check the valve cover gaskets which will drip onto the exhaust pipe.

Please let us know what you find so it will help others.
