I had to change out my leaf spring shackles an hangers.I got the hangers off just fine but I can't get the bolt that holds the shackles on the leaf springs out. They won't even budge. Any ideas other than heating it? An changing the bushings also. Appreciate it. Thanks.

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on? That would be great. You can upload it here with your response.

They can be life savers at times. So I put the tip of the pry bar behind the head of the bolt an hit the other side with a hammer numerous of times an no luck.I also used allot of PB blaster. That is what you were talking about right?

Hello, I'm Danny.

Just to add my two cents. I used to put jack stands under the frame to support the truck, then using a floor jack under the differential I would lower the whole assembly down after removing shackles to have enough clearance to punch bolts through to clear frame. Sometimes if equipped the tow hitch had to be removed as well. Hope this helps and thanks again for using 2CarPros.

That is what I did.I removed shocks from rear end an lowered it all the way. All that is left to take out are these bolts.I got everything else off. Thank you for the information though.

Hi, I am currently trying to change the leaf spring off my truck listed above 1500 4x4 z71 off road truck. I thought in order to save money I could use the leaf spring off my 1993 GMC Sierra 4x4 Z71 truck, but have noticed that the 1993's spring has a bow shape and has four springs rather than five springs off my 1995. Is this how shape normal, and are these leaf springs even interchangeable?
Thank you In advance.
Fred

Okay, I attached the procedure for replacing the springs.

Make sure you use new U bolts and colts securing the front and rear of the spring mounts.

Roy

1. Raise and support vehicle, then the rear axle assembly.
2. Remove U-bolt nuts and washers.
3. Remove anchor plate, Fig. 5.
4. Remove U-bolts and spacer.
5. Loosen shackle to spring nut.
6. Remove shackle to rear bracket attaching nut, washer and bolt.
7. Remove spring to front bracket, nut, washers and bolt.
8. Remove spring assembly from vehicle.
9. Reverse procedure to install.
