2002 Land Rover Freelander oil specification

My owner`s manual`s oil specifications state only synthetic oil,5W50,0W40,5W40 should be used.
Would putting 5W30 oil in my Freelander cause the engine to seize.

you don't really want to go down in oil grade ..(thinner)
