LR Freelander with 2L T/Dsl engine was having difficulty starting even though we are in tropical climate. A mechanic thought problem was in glow plug system and bypassed the relay which did allow the engine to start quickly. Within weeks of that procedure the timing chain broke. Question: could the timing chain failure be a result of bypassing the glow plug relay, creating greater combustion than the engine was designed for, and with that greater combustion continuing even after start-up??
