Hello,
I have an 04 land rover discovery 2... First I notice smell of coolant when I start the car. So I checked the engine and notice pink stuff on top of the engine below the intake. There are 2 hoses connecting to where the intake goes in and both shows crusty pink stuff and guessing it drip down the engine. My coolant was low (cold) so I will fill that up right away. I checked the oil and it looks normal...There is no smoke coming out of the tailpipe. I had my headgasket done in 2008 (under warranty) They also change plugs, wires. Although my coolant is low it doesn't seem to drain at all. Also when I rev the engine I hear water running when I'm inside the vehicle. Any advise before I take it to a shop?

Thanks,

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

The noise you hear is air trapped in the heater system, you will need to get the cooling system pressure tested and get the leaks under control, a cooling system pressure test will locate the external coolant leaks, start here.

Thank you for your response...I am going to the shop tomorrow and have them test it. Can this lead to another head gasket problem? How can I tell if the head gasket is shot? I have no more warranty so I'm trying to see what needs to be fixed so I can save up. Is it advisable to drive my vehicle?

Hi there,
The two quick checks for a head gasket problem is, top up the coolant all the way so it over flows run the engine till hot and watch for bubbles in the coolant, have a Co check done of the cooling system any Co in the system will be from a head gasket problem.
