I recent bought this car and the problem I have is there is no or very little power (acceleration) in it until the engine heats up to normal driving temperature and it becomes normal again. There is also a loud whistling noise when I give her throttle which makes me believe it has something to do with the turbo. It also might help to tell you that the car was lying up for a month before I purchased it which may have led to the problem. If you have any idea what this problem is it would be appreciated.

Have you had it scanned for codes in the computer from the auto parts store yet? Also, do you ever have to hold the gas pedal to the floor to start the car? I suspect you could have a bad coolant temperature sensor reading a lot colder then actual engine temperature. It would run too rich. That whistling noise could be a vacuum leak that would cause a lean issue. I would start by having it scanned for codes.

You use a code reader to check for codes the car may have set from problems the computer miggt have picked up. Thats a starting point for diagnoses like a situation your having. Also vacuum leaks can change size due to engine temperature.A common vacuum leak is pcv on those.
