Front drivers side knocking sound going over bumps. Worse when colder out. Been to two mechanics who could not find anything.

Likely cause is worn out struts at that age. If you have a floor jack, you can put it under the lower control arm and jack up the car a bit. Then you simply try to move the strut up and down. If it moves more than about 1/4 inch, it is bad. The guide below is about replacing the lower control arm, but it is useful in that it shows you what the control arm is.
