My wife stated the A/C on her car wasn't getting as cold. i hook gauges to it and took about 120z. of 134-A to bring the gauges to desired pressures and the ac back to cool, however after allowing it to run i raised the RPMs a bit and as the RPMs came back down i noticed a knock very similar to a rod knock, again each time i revved the engine when the RPMs came down there was the knock [was not knocking prior] so i decided to turn off A/C and the knock went away, i check all mounting bolts [all were tight] i get the a/c compressor is culprit, i just never heard a compressor knock like that.

Hi,

You can get a knocking from the compressor if it is overcharged, if there is a blockage in the system, or if there is internal damage within the compressor.

By chance, do you know both the high and low side pressures? If you do, let me know what they are. Also, let me know (if you remember) the approximate outside temperature when it was tested.

Let me know.

That isn't too far off. I would say it's still a little low on freon. At this point, my first suspect is the compressor is failing.

I don't know if you need them, check I attached the directions below for replacing the compressor.

Let me know if this takes care of the problem.

Take care,

Joe

A/C compressor failed/locked up upon removal of old compressor, accumulator, A/C lines etc. No oil was found in the system, replacing with four seasons 58992 new compressor, accumulator, orifice tube, condenser etc. suction lines show visible leakage at crimps so new lines also, along with the 8 ounces of oil which i added through new compressor and accumulator. Thanks again for the replies! First compressor i ever saw to suddenly start knocking like a loose rod, lol.

Hi,

Richard, that is not a common occurrence. LOL Regardless, I'm glad you got it working and I appreciate the update.

Feel free to come back anytime in the future. You're always welcome here.

Take care and stay cool.
