Hi Joe,

Finally the sun shined on my car! I took it to the young Honduran Mechanic Wilson and left the car with him. The next day when I went to him he already opened up the engine and showed me Knock Sensor on Bank1 which looked bad. He replaced it with Denso Sensor. Then he proceeded to check all the wiring going to CEM. He told me the the module in the CEM controlling the KNock Sensors was bad and had to buy it and replace it. After a little while he called me and said he has corrected the wiring and the check engine light is gone. Then he himself took it to the Inspection Station and got a new Sticker good for two years. He charged me $400.00 which I know is cheap. For similar work I paid $650.00 which did not solve the problem. Thank God my nightmare is over. From now on Wilson is my Mechanic. He knows all aspects of the car and will fix anything. Thanks again to you for sticking with me giving me advice. I appreciate it very much. My name is Sam.

Welcome back, Sam.

I'm glad to hear it is fixed and I'm happy to help. However, didn't they replace the knock sensor prior?

You know, today's mechanics can't just turn a wrench. They need to be able to analyze, diagnose, and think. I'm really glad to hear you found someone. And the price, $400.00 for parts and labor is good.

Take care and feel free to come back any time you need anything.

Joe

Thanks Joe,
Yes, the Knock Sensor on Bank1 was replaced twice with standard product, manufacturer. The final one was Denso, which Toyota and Lexus uses on its cars. Probably the standard product sensor was bad. Anyhow I am happy now and hopefully this problem will not come again. Thanks for all the help and say Happy Mothers day to your mother and wife. So long.
Sam

Sam:

You are always welcome to come back. The only thing is we try to keep different conditions specific to one thread. It helps others with similar issues.

Regardless, you are welcome back any time.

Take care and best wishes.

Hi,

When getting things online, they may not be exactly what is described. I would suggest a reputable parts store.

What type of fuel are you using? I'm having same problem and check engine came on after replacing code P0330 and adding 87 fuel. And my vehicle is a 2002 es300 and recommends 91.

Hi,

The code you have, P0330, deals with the knock sensor. Have you replaced the sensor? If so, has the same code come back?

As far as using 87 octane fuel, you are more likely to have spark knock or detonation. The engine is designed to run on a specific type of fuel. Have you tried using 91 or higher octane?
