Wiring that is not corroded, properly connected, and has no damage to the insulation is what you should look for. However, wiring can fool you. It can appear fine but be internally damaged / broken and not making good contact. If it appears good, disconnect the battery and check it for continuity. Basically from one end of the wire to the other, you are checking if power can flow through it with minimum resistance.
If you have a multi meter, set it to ohms. Touch the two connectors together to make sure it shows 0. Then place the connectors, one at each end, of the wire in question. If it shows close to 0, you have continuity. Wiggle the wire while testing to see if there is a break at some point.
