2006 Kia Sportage Heater not working properly

2006 Kia Sportage Four Wheel Drive Manual

I have noticed that my heater works intermitently and the temperature is very low when it works, What is the problem and can I resolve this myself?

I would start with the thermostat. It sounds like maybe not enough coolant is circulating.
