2001 Kia Sportage water pump

i did some repairs to the engine when i was finished i started the car with the radiator cap off when it cranked over water shot out of the radiator i have never seen this before is this normal or is something wrong

that indicates compression being lost from the engine cylinders. this is caused by either a faulty head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.
