2001 Kia Sportage water pump

I did some repairs to the engine when I was finished I started the car with the radiator cap off when it cranked over water shot out of the radiator I have never seen this before is this normal or is something wrong

That indicates compression being lost from the engine cylinders. This is caused by either a faulty head gasket or a cracked cylinder head.
