Today I parked briefly (5 minutes) on an incline and forgot to put on my parking brake. When I reversed out, my engine started sputtering and the "check engine" light came on. When I'd slow to a stop, the engine would drop out of gear and I'd have to restart the car.

Did forgetting to put on the parking brake bring this on? I haven't had any previous problems with the car... it felt like the engine just wouldn't catch after the parking brake issue.

Hi nnk,

Problem should not be caused by or due to not applying the parking brakes.

Get a free scan done at Autozone and let me know the EXACT trouble code so I can understand what went wrong and provide you with the necessary information.
