1998 Kia Sportage Oil in spark plug chamber

While changing the spark plugs because of poor performance I could not get the last spark plug out, but when I pulled the socket out Inoticed oil on it, what would cause this?

CHances are the valve cover gasket is leaking and the oil is draining down the engine. Clean everything off and check for leaks after driving it for a couple days.
