RECENTLY MY A/C STOPPED COOLING AT TIMES. IT BLOWS HOT AIR SOMETIMES AND WHEN I TRY IT ANOTHER TIME IT COOLS VERY STRONG. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS INCONSISTENT BEHAVIOR AND HOW SHOULD I ADVISE A MECHANIC WHAT TO CHECK OUT FIRST?

When it stops working, is the compressor still cycling?

iN ANSWER TO YOUR QUESTION, THE COMPRESSOR CONTINUES TO CYCLE BUT BLOWS WARM AIR INSTEAD OF COOL AIR.

If it is cycling, there is freon in the system. Have you checked the blend air door? Are the AC hoses cold?
