2004 Kia Spectra Fuel System Issues

2004 Kia Spectra 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

Engine shut off while on the highway and won't start. No warning/hesitation just shut off.

Starts for a second with starter fluid, I can hear the fuel pump run. Battery is fully charged, engine turns over just won't start. All belts are good, car has about 36,000miles. Can't find where to test fuel pressure, so I haven't done that yet. Several people have mentioned an "immobiliser system" but my impression is that those systems cut power to the fuel pump. I don't think this car has that anyways, we've only used "spare" keys that obviously aren't "chipped". Could it be the fuel pressure regulator?? Could the fuel pump be bad or clogged even though it powers up?? 2.0L apparently has a fuel pump/filter all in one

Fuel Line Pressure Inspection

Disconnect negative battery cable.
Release fuel system pressure. Refer to Releasing fuel system pressure.
Install SST (0K2A1 131 001) to service port located on center of the fuel rail.
Connect negative battery cable.
Connect data link connector terminals FUEL PUMP and B with jumper wire.
Turn ignition switch ON.
Inspect the fuel line pressure.
Fuel line pressure: 46 - 51 psi (320 - 350 kPa, 3.2 - 3.5 kg/sq.cm)

Pressure too high:

Check for restricted fuel return line
If line is clean, replace pressure regulator
Pressure too low:

Block return line and check if pressure rises
If pressure does rise, replace pressure regulator.
If pressure does not rise, measure fuel pump maximum pressure.
Turn ignition switch OFF and remove jumper wire.
