Air Conditioning problem
2004 Kia Spectra Manual 67500 miles
I'm trying to figure out if I need to replace my compressor or if my problem might be something else. A while back, my a/c started making noise. It was like really loud engine noise that tracked with the RPMs of my car. When the a/c was off, the noise went away. Also, if I had the air temperature control set to the coldest setting, the a/c would blow super cold air for a little while, and then stop blowing altogether. If I turned the fan up to high, the air would sputter a little, spit out some white flakes, and then start blowing again. I had to repeat this process every so often. It was like the a/c was freezing? Then, a couple days ago I started hearing a terrible-sounding noise coming from under my hood that sounded like a mixture of rubbing, grinding, sputtering - it's hard to describe. The noise went away when I turned off the a/c. I've mostly been afraid to use the a/c since, but I've tried it a couple times, just to see, and I don't think it's making cold air any more. Any thoughts? Thanks a bunch.
