I went in to start the car this morning, put the key in the ignition, and everything came on as normal for about 1-2 seconds then went completely black. No power to anything in the car - nothing.

Would a bad engine control module do something like this out of the blue? Or does it sound more like a relay or fuse? I would like to try to troubleshoot before I pay big bucks to a repair guy on an old car to fix.

I would appreciate any recommendations you may have.

Thank You,

It sounds like a bad fuse or electrical connection. Have you checked the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and tight? Have you checked the main ground at the engine block? Also, have you checked to make sure the battery didn't internally short out? Is it still producing at least 12+ volts?
