2003 Kia Sorento Rattling noise & rough idle when braki

My '03 Sorento just started making a rattling noise. Like coins in a dryer, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. Never really loud, just annoying. I've also noticed that when braking hard the engine seems like it wants to stall but doesn't.

Thoughts?

Take a rubber mallor and tap on the exhaust system to see if you can reproduce the noise. Chances are it is a loose heat shield or a loose catalytic converter.

Let me know what you find.
