Hello. My 2000 Kia sephia has brake lights which don't come on when brakes are depressed. I've changed the bulbs and when I turn on the headlights, the tail lights DO come on too, but the lights do not light up when the brake is depressed. I've checked all the fuses related to the tailights and they all look good. Could it be a relay? Also I should mention that my indicator light on my dash always says my emergency brake is on even when it's not. Is this related to light failure?

Hi there,

2 issues to check here, first check that the brake fluid is ok, if low this may cause the light on the dash to come on, check that the brake light fuse and the brake light switch at the top of the brake pedal is working correctly.

I had the same problem with my 00' spectra. What I didn't realize is that there are 2 fuse blocks. 1 in the engine compartment and one by the drivers left calf, the one in the cab has a "brake" fuse and that fixed my issue. Otherwise, like Mark said, check the switch on the brake pedal arm.
