2004 Kia Sedona brakes

have a 2004 kia sedona. am replacing rear brakes. parts store said to use 05 brakes since 04 wont fit. have the shoes on, now the drum won't go back on. measured the shoes new ones are 1/4 inch longer than the old ones. what should I try next?

Have you taken up all the slack out of the adjusters? If it is an `04, why would the parts people sell parts for an `05 unless they supersede, and, have the shoes been arced to the drum? Length of the friction surface should be of little or no concern.
