What is the function of the fuel system air filter? How often does it need to be replaced? Can I do the replacement or do I need a mechanic?

it performs pretty much the same function as the old carbon canister filters, it has very little importance to the vehicle. the manufacturer suggests replacing the fuel tank air filter every 150,000 miles...thats a pretty big mileage interval so I wouldn't even worry about that thing for a long time to come..
