Hi,

I don't really have the money to take my car in to have a diagnostic test done it. I'm hoping to find out a little more about what the problem might be so I can decide whether to replace the battery or the alternator or neither. I'm clueless and afraid of getting ripped off.

:( So here's the problem:

Sometimes the car will start on its own. Other times it will only click and it sounds like the click is coming from somewhere closer to the firewall.
Although, it will always start when you push it and pop the clutch. I have never experienced dim lights or anything else even when it won't start. AutoZone said both alternator and battery were putting out acceptable readings but neither were putting out what they are supposed to put out.
The check engine light has come on at certain times and then gone back out, it is on at this present time.

I greatly appreciate any insight I can get!
