2003 Kia Rio Air con switches on when fan is turned on

Hi,
My kia rio air con switches on whenever I turn the fan on and I ave to switch te air con off by pressin the aircon button. When i have done this and turn the vent dial it turns on the aircon... The other day I stalled the car on an incline and forot to switch the fan off and when i started te car it made a screechin sound cause te air con came on. please could you help me to find a solution.
