My car appears to be idling too slow. Car recently had major engine work done under warranty at 98,000 miles. I am wondering what could cause this? Could a clogged fuel filter be the problem?

A clogged fuel filter can cause this, but so can many other things. If you just had major engine work done on it, chances are they forgot or missed a vacuum line or a sensor. Has the check engine light come on? What type of major work was done?

The check engine light and the OD light comes on after it stutters or stalls (FYI this happens only when car is idling or coming or starting from a stop), but then goes off a little while later. The timing belt had broken and messed up the engine. When they fixed this under warranty, I also paid extra for them to replace any other engine belts, etc so that my engine was basically like new. I also paid to have the water pump replaced.

If the check engine light has come on, there should be a trouble code stored in the computer. Take the car to a nationally recognized parts store and have them scan the computer for codes. Most will do it for free, so there will be no money out of pocket.

After you get the codes, let me know what you found and we can go from there.
