idle air control valve

Kia Sportage 2001 72,000 miles 2.4L
Tried to start car after not using it for one week
lifted hood and heard humming coming from idle air control valve.
unplugged electrical connector,jump started car, it ran ok.
plugged connector back up.
problem has not occured since.
What could be problem?

Sticky valve? try removing it and cleaning it out with a little carb spray

In response to your answer concerning sticking air control valve.
My problem was voltage was appiied to control with ignition switch Off which caused battery to run down.
2001 Kia Sportage,72,000 mi., 2.0L engine
Also, I did spray cleaner into revolving valve of unit.
Thanks for info so far, I hope that additional information will help diagnose my problem.
