HELP! my car had trouble accelerating!!!

My 2000 honda civic has been giving me problems when I try to accelerate. It is sluggish and not smooth and at times feels like it's stopped. What could this indicate?

give me more info..like mileges,maintenance,since when have you had this problem,did it start slowly or all of a sudden,does it ever not start or does it stall,was it after you had some other work done......
