Transmission problem
2004 Other Kia Models Engine Size unknown Front Wheel Drive Automatic 92000k miles

I had this problem for months now, every time I shift to "drive", the car wont move automatically. Then when I hit the pedal, the car suddenly accelerates or surges with a knocking sound. This happens only from a full stop. There is also a whining sound on the engine compartment every time the transmission is in "Drive". I brought it back to the SC numerous times but they could not fix the problem. There are no error codes found. What could possibly be the problem?

thanks

Hi there,

it sound like a transmission problem, possibly low pump (hydraulic ) pressure this could also be the noise you hear, this is rather hard to diagnose from a distance, I would go back to the dealer or an accredited transmission shop and have the line pressure tested as a starting point.

Thanks for the reply, I brought it to another service center and found out the problem turned out to be a broken crankshaft assembly, it is usually caused by a misplaced crankshaft bolt, then when it got loose, the sprockets hit the timing sensor causing it to malfunction. When I saw the bolt removed, it was badly loose thread. How a simple mistake could cause so much damage in the car and in the budget. I reported the problem to the dealer and they said they would pay for the repairs
