2002 Kia V6 Front Wheel Drive Automatic 94000 miles

2002 kia sedona - front ds grinding noise, sounds metal to metal but its not the pads and thank you merlon, I checked the rotors, backing plate not rubbing. Could it be the bearings? How can I take the nut off? I heard the socket is not available to public. Is that true? Really appreicate your help, will donate later, no money available in account at this time.

Hi there,

Jack the wheel up and set stand under body, Check for any free play in bearing by rocking top to bottom, there should be no movement. If you can feel slop the bearing is faulty. These bearings require a hydraulic press to remove, it is a job for a mechanical work shop. The bearing may be noisy with out any signs of free play, your mechanic will have to road test to determine if it is faulty or not. Make sure pads are fitted in the correct way, look for any clean scraping marks on the rotor just in case.

My grinding noise I suspected the drive train; my mechanic said the clutch was slipping, as I only had the car less than a week hard to tell, but I did hear the grinding noise and the KA dealership replaced the clutch said the tranny and brakes OK.
BUT the original problem was and still is electrical. KIA has a history of 'floating grounds' which make car seem to be inhabited by poltergiests, nobody has the same presentation mechanical difficulty.

Mine is car starts when key turned over, then hours later dies at idle, then takes 4 or 5 seconds to fire when key is turned over, then later takes 8 seconds, fires once if lucky, if not no fire, then tow to shop. This is the major problem not fixed and I'm sure its electrical but now, the 3rd effort, this KIA wants $1000 to replace a major electrical unit; is this a genuine fix or they just trying to run me off with the price as hunting for a floating ground would take days?
