I have a 96 Kia Sephia with a 1.8 DOHC, I have had lots of issues with this car since I bought it, I have most of them fixed but this one has me and my dad stumped, it is not showing any codes but it will try to die when you are just cruising down the road. When accelerating it does just fine but when you take your foot off the gas it will act like you hit the brakes or turned the car off then start driving right again like nothing was wrong for about 5-10 secs then do it again and again and again. I was told by some one that it might be the fuel presure regulator but from what I have read, I dont think that is it. And I have replaced the fuel filter. And it has all new spark plugs and wires as well as cap and roter(i know I spelled that wrong)

I have the same problem. I own a 1997 Kia Sephia GS 1.8L Manual Trans. 4Cyl. 130k approx. Miles. I did some maintnace of the following: Spark plugs, Spark Wires, Rotor, Spark Cap, Cover Gasket (was leaking), PCV valve. After that update, my car runs good and Idels fine. Once and a while when Im driving it, the power will cut and the RPM's will drop, unless I accelerate. When I do continue to accelorate it will continue to climb in RPMs and speed not cutting out untill I try to hold a certin constant speed. The other fix is to stop and shut off the vehical. Then restart and continue to drive. It may or may not do it again for the rest of the trip.

I think it might be a Throttle position sensor or Timing Belt issue.

I have to replace the Water Pump anyways, so I am doing the Timing belt at the same time. I will see if this fixes the problem.
Yet it could be Crank Angle Sensor or Mass Air Flow Sensor. All are expensive to replace. : (
