It is time for me to get my transmission fluid changed. The people at Kia want $200 for a transmission flush or $100 for just a drain and fill. Is the flush really worth an extra $100? Is it possible for me to change the fluid myself, if so, what type of fluid would I need?

Hi there,

If you just drain the oil in the pan you only change about 1/2 the transmission oil, the cooler and torque converter will not drain this way, with the flush you replace all the oil, if the old oil is very dirty it will mix with the clean oil and decrease the life of the new oil.
