2007 Kia Optima 101500 miles

I just had my throtal* sensor replaced and the mechanic said that a reading came up that my 02 sensor was bad. He said it might be a false reading due to the replacement. Is that possible? What happens when an 02 sensor goes bad? I mean will my car just die if I'm driving it? I travel anywhere from 100 - 200 miles a day, several freeways and I don't want to just die out on the freeway. How soon should I have it replaced if it is bad?
