My girlfriend's car recently started to make to strange whining sound. The sound is coming from the engine area but I can not locate the source. The noise happens at all times when the car is running. Over the past week the noise has become louder and louder. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

CHances are it is a belt driven accessory. Remove the serp belt and start the engine to see if the sound is gone. NOTE: Only run the engine a few seconds because it will overheat.

LEt me know what you find.
