the axel rubber gasket is leaking grease. Iwas told i have to get a new axe. The belts were changed and the car stears as it did 6 mo ago, it is working finw. Di i have to replace the axel or jost the leaking rubber gasket next to the wheel. I think the macanic is making a big job of it.

the "gasket" i think your talking about is called a CV boot .. you can just replace the boot "gasket" and repack the CV with grease .. if your not getting any noises clicking while turning etc. it is possible there is nothing wrong with the CV and you can just replace the "gasket" .. if there is a fault with the CV you can just repace the damaged/faulty CV not the whole axle (driveshaft) .. but without actually inspecting the axle (driveshaft) i couldn't comment any further ??
